A 'Hard Brexit' means a second independence referendum. In other news, the Pope is still a Catholic.

Just a quick note to let you know that I have a new article at the International Business Times about what we learned from Nicola Sturgeon's speech today : that SNP MPs will vote against Brexit, that the draft bill on a second indyref will be launched for consultation shortly, and that in the event of a Hard Brexit, the SNP will seek a special status for Scotland within the UK that will allow us to remain inside the Single Market.  The BBC's Brian Taylor seemed to interpret the latter point as Sturgeon floating an alternative to a referendum (and the audience failing to pick up on the significance of it), but I must say I think he's wrong.  Sturgeon is asking for something that May has already completely set her face against, and the inevitable formal refusal will simply bolster the casus belli for Indyref 2.

You can read the article HERE.

  1. I wish you would explain that to Andrew Neil, as he seemed to be having trouble understanding Angus Robertson.

Maybe it's the accent! :) Good piece.

The Nat sis should go for a referendum. They will then have to explain again what currency we will have and by what means they will have exports moved. Maybe via Ireland! at great expense since Ireland may not have access to Ruk ports. But like everything else the Nat sis will say och it will be alright on the night.

  3. As soon as May was annointed Queen of Tories, the exit from the EU was always going to be "hard".
Her track record on EU legislation bares this out.
A couple of things have held that back however.
She knows she cannot get a vote through Westminster so is going to have to do it in the traditional manner of off the books.
This,to put it mildly,is going to upset a lot of Tories, which in turn will make getting other business through parliament much more difficult.
Secondly,as soon as the "hard" exit decision is announced, that will be the starting gun for another Scottish independence campaign.
Much work to be done on these issues before the formal exit can be announced, uppermost of which is how to stop indy2.

That is nonsense. Any deal done will be voted through parliament because most politicians do not have a clue about business. You Nat sis really need to push through your indy2 as you fash call it. You may win but if you lose you are in the wilderness.

    1. We're in the wilderness if we bottle it and tamely agree to be dragged out of Europe without a fight. So nothing to lose, really, might as well go for it.

Mein Gotten Himmel frau Knickerless swears to protect Scotland's interests by handing them to Berlin and to the rapturous fanatical applause from the Nuremburg Rally held on the Clydeside. Zeig Heil.
